Over the last few weeks I have been moving in and getting my new apartment set up. I wanted to share with my readers what I have been getting and from where in case you are also in the market for new bedroom furniture or decor. It can also serve as a shopping list of what I bought and recommend for your bedding. I still have to get my wall art hung up, curtains, an upholstered chair and figure out some more decorations, but so far it is coming along nicely!
In my first bedroom which I am showing in this post I have one large set of windows. This meant I wanted to have my bed’s headboard on the right wall to allow for the window to be a focal point of natural light. I also then wanted my long dresser with mirror to be directly in line with my bed on the opposite wall. I also have a small night stand on the right side of the bed. I chose to only get one night stand. I am slowly learning that making things not be matchy-matchy looks much better when it comes to furniture.
My bedroom furniture was purchased from Raymour & Flanigan. click here for the details
It is called the Metropolitan Home Tocara 4-pc. Platform Bedroom Set w/ Storage Bed. I have a Queen size bed and the color is black with silver finishes. The headboard has a shelf above for storage or to put your cell phone. It also has two hidden cabinets with pull out LED reading lights. The bed is also low which was important to us since we have a a small dog (Yorkie) and don’t want her to jump up or off the bed in fear that as she gets older she would hurt her knees or legs. This bed also has built in two drawer storage. The night stand has a built in outlet strip so you can plug your cell phone and lamp right into the night stand. The long dresser has six big drawers and also the attached mirror. This set is great, sturdy and I love the idea of a black bedroom set.
As you can see the bed has slates already built in so you don’t need to use a box spring. We just kept our Queen size mattress and laid it right on the to of the slates. Now, I will recommend, if you do decide to not use a box spring you should get a really good mattress pad and mattress topper. You will surely feel the hardness of the bed that you wouldn’t probably feel with a box spring. I made sure to buy all of our bedding from scratch and those were some things I knew I had to get right away. The first night we slept on this bed with just the mattress we wound up on the couch in stead, lol.
I bought the following items for my bedding:
1. mattress pad – Tommy Hilfiger bought at TJ Maxx for around $59.99 – click here
2. mattress topper – extra plus queen size from amazon used by Marriot Hotels – click here
3. White 1.000 count sheet set from amazon – click here
4. Purple pillow cases from IKEA $7 each – click here
5. Cool comforter duvet blanket from IKEA – click here
6. Plain black duvet cover set with two shams – click here
7. silver, black and grey comforter set found at Marshall’s – similar sets click here
I personally love the look of purple, grey/silver and black bedding and bedrooms. It gives some feminine and some edgy colors in one look. The two photos and the Paris white flower pot are both from Home Goods. Most of the stuff I have been buying for my new place are from Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s and Amazon. Overall I love how this bedroom is coming along and look forward to sharing more apartment tour photos very soon!
