Now Foods Red Clay Powder Moroccan Review & Tutorial
Our skin takes a beating everyday; from the pollution that it absorbs to the sun and wind, daily makeup wear and stress, so it’s always nice to do something that your face will thank you for. I am always trying different skin care products and have moved toward buying natural products over some of the chemical filled ones you find at your local drug store. Doing a mask once a week is something I have added to my skin care routine. I usually do it on Sunday when I have some free time and want to treat myself to some at-home spa fun. I recently purchased the Now Foods (or also labeled Now Solutions) Moroccan Red Clay Powder and had been excited to try it out. I ordered it on Amazon for only roughly $7 with free shipping (click here to buy) and it had received some amazing reviews. I love going off reviews since I know how word of mouth has helped me find some great products I wouldn’t have ever tried before. I also didn’t think it would be bad to try since it didn’t cost much, it wasn’t an expensive purchase in case I didn’t like it or it didn’t work that well for me. The idea of using a clay mask that was all natural appealed to me and I wanted to see if it stood up to all the hype that I had been reading about.
So what is Moroccan red clay and what does it do to your skin?
Red clay, also known as Rhassoul clay, has been mined from the Atlas Mountain region of Morocco.
This mineral rich clay has been used by Moroccan women to enhance skin and hair for centuries. This is also the clay used to prepare cleansing body wraps in Turkish baths.
Moroccan Rhassoul Clay can be used as detoxifying cleanser, skin conditioner, shampoo, and facial and body mask. It has a number of outstanding benefits that surpass those of other clays because it contains the highest content of silica, magnesium, potassium and calcium.
How to do your mask & some helpful tips:
♥ Make sure you have a headband on or something to keep your hair off of your face. You don’t want your hair to get dried in the mask and be in the way. I love using a cute one like I have in this photo which kept my hair in place.
♥ I suggest doing this in a bathroom. Get a small bowl or dish to mix in. Also make sure to have a soft face towel nearby.
♥ Mix equal parts of water and clay powder using a spoon. I used a tiny spoon and did 2 tbsps of powder and 2 tbsp of water
♥ Mix up the powder and water and it will turn to a brownish water. It will not get thick and clumpy like you would expect from most masks.
♥ Use a cotton ball or cotton pad to dip into the mixture and then dab it all over your skin. Do not put in sensitive areas like too close to your mouth or eyes.
♥ Make sure you are applying your mask to completely clean skin free of any lotions or cleansers.
♥ When you first apply the mask it will be a dark brown kind of color but as it dries on your face it turns a skin tone color. This will show you which areas are still wet and which are dry. I suggest leaving your mask on for at least 15 minutes or until it is completely dry.
♥ It will start to feel dry and tight. When you are at your 15 minute mark rinse your face completely with cool water. Remove all of the clay and then pat your skin with a soft, clean face towel.
♥ Apply a light, fragrance free natural moisturizer after and then you are all set. I recommend the derma e Hyaluronic Acid Rehydrating Serum that is very soft, light weight and all natural. It also has hylauronic acid which is great for your skin too. (click to buy here)
The results? After my skin was moisturized I have to say this is now going to be a staple skin care item in my arsenal! My skin felt so clean and not tight or dry at all. It felt light and clean and soft. It takes a bit of confidence to post a photo with bare face but the below image is me right after the mask came off without a drop of ANY make up. From someone who used to always be afraid to wear no make because I had bad skin as a teenager this is a huge thing for me. I still sometimes believe my skin is really bad but I have to remind myself it is not anymore. Sure I deal with the occasional break out but not nearly as bad as when I was a hormonal teenager dealing with over oily skin. As you can see my skin looks fresh and glowing without any redness or dry, irritation anywhere.
I give this product an A+ not only because it really does work for me, but because it’s all natural and it is not going to break the bank. I think this jar will last me over 6 months! You only need 1 tbsp of powder and 1 tbsp of water to do your entire face (I just used double to show for this post). I had so much left over when I was done so I only need to do a small amount to cover my skin. I think you will all really like trying this one out and it was a nice spa day for me at home too.

How often do you suggest doing the mask? Thanks!
I do a mask every two weeks 🙂
Thanks for the review! I just picked up a jar from the Vitamin Shoppe for $4 if you’re looking for a new place to buy it. 🙂
I have gotten mine there before too 🙂
