Healthy Meatballs? Yes! A No Breadcrumb Lean High Protein Meatball Recipe

You can make crumb free meatballs, and they will still taste delicious!

Making a hot, fresh batch of meatballs is a Sunday tradition, at least in my house. Whenever I am meal prepping on a Sunday I always include a batch of lean meatballs. As I’ve posted before, meatballs are a great high protein food whether you eat them hot or cold. I like to make my meatballs in the oven, baked, so you don’t even need to use oils to cook them in a skillet. This is a much healthier option and they taste just as good as grandma’s. (without all the extra carbs and fat).

I like to make my meatballs lately with a combination of 99% lean ground natural turkey with no antibiotics and lean ground beef from Trader Joe’s. The two meats together give the meatballs a really great flavor. I also like to use lean meats since they are high in protein and lower in fat. Always go with the leanest ground meat they offer, even though it costs more, it is better for you to use the lean meat over the higher fat meats.

Next I like to get all of my seasonings together and preheat my oven to 375 degrees. For my meatballs I like to add:

– chopped white onion, chopped celery and minced garlic

– everyday seasonings like garlic powder, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes

– i use a small amount of organic yellow mustard and organic ketchup for taste

– 3 egg whites

I make them somewhere between a mini meatball side and normal meatball size. I let them bake in the oven so they get nice and cooked on the outside and delicious on the inside. It takes them about 30 minutes to cook. They might be the easiest recipe that everyone always enjoys when they come over. Each meatball has over 10 grams of protein each! They also have no bread crumbs so they are very very low in carbs too. It’s a high protein meal that you can add to your routine daily and enjoy.

  1. These sound awesome Adrienne! Would you be so kind and share the exact recipe? I’m not a very good cook so I would have a hard time figuring out the amount for the seasoning/ketchup and mustard to use.

  2. I switched to vegan lifestyle years ago but my hubby doesn’t, he loves meat and wants to eat it as often as possible, so i’m always in a search for good healthy recipes to save for him 🙂 He’s not a very veggie loving guy and i have to sneak healthy ingredients everywhere when i cook, so he can eat healthy without knowing it (what you wouldn’t do for love !!!) By now my all time favorite way to make meatballs is to combine chicken breast, a piece of avocado and cooked mushrooms, garlic and spices in the food processor and then bake in the oven, but i’ll try your recipe too. it looks easy and delicious 🙂 Thanks for sharing !

  3. thank you so much i’m glad to hear you also made the switch to healthier eating. I have been vegetarian before and always think i will go back.

  4. can you please share your chicken and avacado meatball recipe. Sounds really good.
