Time to get crafty with some do it yourself wedding projects. Let the creativity begin!
Ever since the creation of Pinterest bride’s are realizing that wedding planning can actually be a lot of fun. Once I locked my date down for my wedding I started to create boards on Pinterest for everything from wedding dresses, wedding shoes, DIY wedding decorations, wedding hair & makeup ideas and more. The greatest part about it is that it has inspired so many brides to do some of their own decorations and realize that it isn’t as hard as you think. I personally love doing anything that allows me to be creative and artsy, something that we tend to stop doing when we become adults. Think about, when was the last time you used some glue, glitter and paint?
Now that we are a few months away from our big day I’ve started to look at some of the projects that I have pinned and found on the internet and start to buy the tools and items I will need to make them. I went to my local crafting shop to start to pick up a ton of stuff in my wedding colors: gold, champagne, ivory, blush pink and rose gold. Thankfully the A.C. Moore shop by me in Secaucus, New Jersey is going out of business in a few months so I’ve been able to stock up on a TON of goodies for up to 40% off! Granted, a good amount of items are out of stock now but I was able to grab as much as I could on the few trips that I went there. You can also try Michael’s craft store and search on Amazon Arts & Crafts page as well for a lot of craft items for your wedding projects.
There are a few projects that I knew I wanted to do on my own. I searched online for how much some of these things would cost to buy and I was shocked at some of the marked up prices I was seeing. I knew that with some time and creativity I could make a lot of these these myself, and it would be so much more special on my wedding day to look around and know that I made those things with love. There is a lot of money to be saved by doing DIY projects for your wedding, all it takes is some inspiration!
Project #1: Making Your Own Wooden Table Numbers
This is something that I knew would look so great on my tables and would be easy to replicate on my own. I bought these numbers for 19 tables and got the wooden numbers that were about 3-3 1/2 inches tall. I then bought a variety of shaped bases for these numbers to be hot glued onto standing up. I bought some blush pink and gold paint to paint all over and then some various glitter colors to do a mix of blush pink, gold and rose gold colors. I also got some gold glitter spray paint in case the paint takes a bit too long to do.
Here is the inspiration behind what I found on Pinterest. Can you believe some people on Etsy are charging $200-$250 for a full set of table numbers like this? I will be able to make mine for under $55 by doing it myself and by taking advantage of great sales.
Project #2: Large Initial Glitter Letters
These were a fun idea to either put on my entry table, name card table or somewhere else in our reception venue near our photographs and relatives photos. I am going to paint the two large letters either gold or blush pink and the “&” sign will be all glitter. I will then hot glue them to the large wooden shelf that I picked up which will also act as a base. This project will cost me only about $10 when it is complete.
Here is my inspiration for this project. I think the letters when done in your wedding colors are such a nice touch to a table to dress it up with your own letters and make it more personal. The base stand I think also is a great idea so that I don’t have to worry that the letters fell down if someone accidentally touches them.
Project #3: LOVE wooden letters
I wanted to add other words throughout my venue besides just our names or initials so when I saw this huge letters I know I wanted to do something with them. I am going to paint these also and have them lay out either on my card table with photo frames and candles or in the lobby when you walk in. These letters were only $3 a piece!
Here is the inspiration for this project. Instead of pieces of the gold I will pay these with gold glitter so they shimmer under the candle light in the wedding venue.
Project #4 Mr. & Mrs. Sweetheart Chair Signs and Sashes
The sweetheart table for the bride and groom is a focal point in the room and it needs to get some extra decorating love. I wanted to do a combination of a beautiful sash with some flowers as well as a “Mr. & Mrs.” sign, but none that I saw online fit the bill. I wanted lots of gold, glitter, champagne colors and some blush pink. So I decided to do this myself instead. I bought the wooden letters for the words, I bought lots of different shades of gold and champagne tool and now all I need is a flower to add to the sash to complete the look. I plan to hang the signs with ribbon and have them hanging loosely on the back of our chairs. This will be great for a photo while everyone is on the dance floor.
Some of the other items that I picked up for other projects that I plan to do myself:
– tons of white votive candles ( I plan to make my own glitter glass votive candle holders like the ones below )
– Photo frames with our hashtag for friends to share and post photos. We will put these in gold frame throughout the venue
– suite heart chairs decorations. i want to do a beautiful bow on each of our chairs to photograph from behind while everyone is on the dance floor
Below are all of my current crafts that I purchased. You will also need some other supplies as well:
