Healthy Haul and Some Updates on Supplements
Greetings my friends – it was a hectic week and for that reason my Saturday was spent doing tons of running around, errands, cleaning – the glamorous usual stuff that us adults have to do (blah!) I ran out of a lot of things I am used to taking everyday when it comes to my vitamins and supplements, I ran out of protein powder and I needed to reload on some all natural bath and beauty products. Typically during the week I can’t get any of this done, but on the weekends I make it part of my routine to stop and pick up these items – which usually means I pick up some extra things to test and try out. I am a sucker for trying new items especially when it comes to fitness related things or food items. <— one day I will post a photo of my cabinets in my kitchen and you will see just how much space I dedicate to my supplements, it’s pretty ridiculous – who else do you know has an entire cabinet full of protein powder (like 6-7 tubs at a time?!)
So what did I pick up on my latest healthy haul?
Orgain Organic Protein Shake (RTD ready to drink) in Chocolate Fudge Flavor
Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Natural Deodorant
D’s Naturals No Cow Bar in Peanut Butter Cookie Dough
Nature’s Way Hydroplenish Hylauronic Acid Supplements
NutriWhey Belgian Chocolate Natural Protein Powder

The switch to natural products vs. big brand
As I read more and more about natural bath and beauty items I have been consciously switching my products from big brand names to natural lines. This has been something that has taken me awhile to do, but as I continue to read more about the ingredients in everyday items like toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant and mouthwash I have been making smarter purchases with natural brands, andorganic when it’s available. Most conventional deodorants contain a list of toxic ingredients, such as aluminum chlorohydrate, parabens, propylene glycol and triclosan, among other questionable ones. I was always a user of deodorants like Degree or Dove, especially as someone who works out daily I am always making sure I slap that stuff on. Knowing what I know now, I have been purchasing natural lines like Desert Essence which seems to work very well for me even while heavy sweating during my workouts. I can also feel the difference in this antiperspirant vs. the white chalky others. The one I picked up is called “Dry by Nature Deodorant” and is non-gmo, long-lasting and made with natural ingredients. So far it has held up to the test and likely something I will repurchase again. I have also started to switch up my toothpaste to natural toothpaste as well and found that there are so many that really taste great and have wonderful benefits for oral health as well.
For me it’s all about having healthy options on the go. We all lead busy lives, so the best way to avoid temptations like stopping into the convenience store on the highway and grabbing junk is to have protein shakes or bars with me at all times. I literally put a bar in my car, glove compartment, in my purse, at my desk at work and in my gym bag. This way anytime hunger strikes I can eat something that is high in protein and gives me what my body needs to hit my daily macros. I really have made a big switch to plant-based protein bars and right now I buy the D’s Naturals No Cow Bars pretty often. They are very gentle on my stomach and for under 200 calories I get 20 grams of protein and around 18 grams of fiber – this helps to keep me feeling full a lot longer between meals. I also sometimes want a snack that feels like a real snack so I picked up some Quest Nutrition Protein Chips, which have the crunch of a baked potato chip but packed with protein.
When it comes to protein powder I do try a lot of flavors and brands, however I have been buying consistently the NutriWhey Natural Protein by NutriForce Sports because it has no artificial colors or sweeteners and that for me is a game changer. So many protein powders use sucralose and I like to avoid that when I can, so this brand really works for me and tastes very good in my daily protein shakes. While it may cost a little bit more to me it’s worth it and it comes in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and cafe cream so there is surely a flavor for all taste buds.
