After so many recipes using protein powder you would think that by now I would have run out of ideas, but that is never the case in my kitchen. I am always whipping up something new, some fun way to add more protein into my diet that isn’t your typical shake or smoothie. Playing around with protein and protein infused foods has made my diet so much tastier. One big suggestion I have is to make sure that your cabinets are stocked with only natural, organic and good for your baking ingredients.
So many times when I want to bake something I just have to pick a few things out, combine them, test them out (some fail, hence they never make it to my blog but hey that is trial & error folks!) and then taste them. No good chef makes everything perfect the first time, so I like to have a great stock of items in my house to play with and try things out with. I will likely do a post soon of all my healthy cooking ingredient must haves so that you have an idea of what I use all the time when baking my recipes.
For this protein and flax seed energy ball recipe I was interested in making little snacks you could “pop” into your mouth but that I didn’t have to bake. I also wanted a treat that I could refrigerate to make it more like a candy and less like a cupcake. To make these you don’t need a stove, just a baking sheet, parchment paper or wax paper, a mixing bowl, mixing spoon and then the recipe ingredients listed below.
2 tbsp of Spectrum Flax Seed with Mixed Berries
2 tsp of Navitus Cacao Nibs
4 tbsp of D’s Naturals Vanilla Maple Fluffbutter (protein infused almond butter)
1/2 cup of skim milk
2 scoops of NutriWhey Belgian Chocolate Protein Powder from NutriForce
3 drops of Vanilla Cream Liquid Sweetner
Combine all of these ingredients into the mixing bowl and knead with your hands like you would a batch of meatballs. Using 1 inch round balls as your size, roll the dough in your hands and transfer to the parchment paper on the baking sheet. The texture will be sticky, tacky and it will coat your hands. You don’t want it to be too dry or else the balls will not be tasty. Once you roll them all out pop them in oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, put them into the fridge for 45 minutes. That’s it, just serve and enjoy!
I like to use the D’s Naturals Fluffbutter since it is all natural, dairy free, gluten free and is protein infused. The Spectrum Flaxseed with mixed berries is a good source of healthy fats and omega 3’s. The cacao nibs are a great antioxidant, superfood with a crunchy chocolatey taste!
