Night Time Skin Care Routine for the Winter Time
I recently posted some of my typical night time skin care routine for helping with oily or acne prone skin. Recently though I have been wanting to do a new routine that allows my face to recover from the bitter winter weather. My skin tends to get very dry and dull in the winter time so I am always looking for new products to help me bring life back to my face, a healthy glow and moisture without clogging my pores or causing breakouts. I have to say that these products below have been a huge game changer and I absolutely recommend them for anyone looking to get some new products to add to their winter night time skin care routine.
I purchased all of these products myself and did not receive any samples or money to talk about any of them. I am simply recommending them to you because I love them and believe they are doing some great things for my skin.
To clean my skin: I am currently using the CeraVe Facial Hydrating Cleanser in the evening to remove my makeup. This cleanser is very gentle on the skin and uses no harsh chemicals or fragrances. This is very important for me, especially in the winter time, where I want the softest, cleanest and simplest cleansers to remove my makeup. Anything that strips your face (and my face) of moisture just causes the skin to produce more oil to counteract the fact that it is now super dry. I don’t like my face too feel parched, thirsty and tight after washing it and this cleanser definitely does not make it feel that way at all. It feels super clean and refreshed and it removes all my makeup really well without the need to wash it again or use a make up remover wipe. If you do feel like you need a wipe for your eye area or eye make up try the CeraVe Face Wipes which are also very gentle and really get everything off.
To exfoliate, brighten and tone my skin: The next thing I use to cleanse my skin after having washed all of my makeup off is to use a First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pad all of my face and neck. These pads help to exfoliate, brighten and tone your skin without making it very dry. The pads are very soft and exfoliate off the dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin without using any irritating beads or grittiness which can sometimes just be too harsh, especially in the winter time. These do not use any harsh fragrance or parabens so its soothing on the skin. They contain just the right amount of lactic and glycolic acids to make them safe and effective for daily use even for people with sensitive skin. Cucumber and Indian gooseberry tone the skin, while lemon peel and licorice root leave the skin bright and glowing. With continued use, your skin will have smoother texture and a brighter tone; pores will appear smaller and fine lines will be minimized. Use one side of the pad on your entire face and then flip it and use the other side. Your skin will feel renewed, fresh and soft after you use these pads.
To hydrate my skin: after cleansing it’s important to put moisture back into your skin with something light (so it doesn’t clog pores) but also packed with good for you ingredients. I am absolutely loving the Josie Maran skin care line which is made with natural ingredients and is perfect during the cold, dry winter months. I use 1-2 drops of the Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment on my skin after it is dry from washing and using my pads. This formula pairs the deep hydration of purified water with skin-rejuvenating micro-droplets of Josie’s 100% Pure Argan Oil. Purified water plumps and hydrates while argan oil preserves and nourishes, locking moisture in and preserving skin’s youthful cushion.Using natural oils for your skin is something that many people fear thinking that all “oil” will cause breakouts, which is the farthest thing from the truth. Actually adding oil to your skin helps it to reach optimal moisture levels and not make your skin produce more. When your skin is super dry and stripped of all oil it starts to pump oil through your pores to help put moisture back into the skin. I like to use the Josie Maran Argan Milk nightly. It will make you look a bit shiny for a few minutes until it dries and sets into your skin. Using this on my skin which is usually oily and sometimes acne prone actually helped keep my skin clear and feeling radiant. This also has no fragrance.
To moisturize my skin: the last step in my winter skin care routine is to use the Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter and pat it into my entire face and neck area. This jar will go a long way and I use about 4 “dots” total on my face and then gentle work it in all over. I put a dot on my forehead, both cheeks and chin and then work it in with my fingertips. This face butter feels like that; a super hydrating, luxurious, whipped cream that puts back tons of moisture into your skin. It dries and sets into the skin quickly and makes my face feel glowing and dewy.
It does not feel heavy like most “night creams” have and it dries super nice without feeling oily or greasy. 100 percent pure argan oil intensely nourishes and protects skin with essential fatty acids and vitamin E, while a synergistic blend of watermelon seed oil, shea butter, and fresh cucumber extract works to leave skin in soft, smooth, glowing condition. Soothing aloe nectar aids in reducing the appearance of redness and inflammation while helping skin retain optimal moisture levels. Safe and effective for all skin types, this unscented nutrient-rich hydrator meets the skin’s needs and leaves you craving the deliciously smooth, buttery texture every day and night. This is a must have, before bed skin care product that I am so glad I found out about!
To renew my skin: two times a month I do my own at home chemical peel. While this might sound very scary to do on your own, trust me it is not hard to do at all on yourself and I’ve already saved myself likely hundreds (maybe even thousands) of dollars by not going to a spa for a peel. I use the Glycolic Acid 30% Gel Peel – Enhanced with Retinol and Green Tea Extract and have to say it is one of the best purchases I have made for my skin. The bottle is still half full and I’ve done this about 6 times already. A glycolic acid peel is a great way to remove weeks worth of dead skin cells and allow new, vibrant layers of skin to shine through. For me it helps to remove sun spots or acne scars as well as bring a glow to my skin. My skin feels soft and smooth after I do this treatment. After washing my face I pat it dry with a soft towel. Using a Taklon Fan Mask Brush Acid Applicator brush I put 2-3 drops of the gel peel on the brush and then slowly “paint” the gel on my skin. I start on my forehead then go down my temples, across my cheeks, down my nose and then to my chine and jawline. The gel will start to make your skin tingle and feel warm but do not worry, it is not ‘burning’ your skin. You can put a fan on your face or fan your face with a piece of paper to cool it down. I leave mine on from 1 to 1:30 minutes but never longer. You can leave it on up to 3 minutes and rinse thoroughly with cool to cold water. Make sure to remove all of the gel from your face so it doesn’t remain on ‘activating’ on your skin. Right away your skin will look renewed and shiny and glow. I wait about 10 minutes and then put my moisturizers listed above on my skin. I do not flake or peel or dry up when using this at all. This peel is designed to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, uneven skin texture, and other signs of aging. It penetrates the epidermal & dermal layers of the skin, removes dead skin cells, minimizes appearance of pores, and increases skin’s absorption rate.
To moisturize my lips: we all know that in the winter our lips can get dry and crack, which can be very painful. I have used so many lip balms, salves and chapstick type products. My favorite product for chapped lips hands down is Aquaphor Lip Repair. I started to use this when I was taking Accutane (the prescription drug used to treat acne that reduces all oil production in your body). Accutane strips your body of all lubrication and your lips peel and crack and bleed (it was awful!). I used Aquaphor Lip Repair religiously because it kept my lips moist and prevented them from peeling. Most other chapsticks just make you have to keep reapplying and don’t put moisture back into them, but this one does. I put a layer on at night before bedtime and it does wonders!
