A few weeks ago I got an amazing email from a woman name Alyson. I knew right away when we started corresponding that this was going to be the start to a great partnership. You see Alyson is an independent consultant for the skin care company Rodan & Fields. As many of you know the mission of my blog is to help women look and feel their very best; whether that is providing fitness tips and workout programs, healthy recipes and meal prep ideas and skin and hair care product feedback and suggestions. When I started to talk to Alyson right away she began helping and guiding me on what skin care products might work well for my skin. I had heard the name Rodan & Field before, but to be honest had never really done much research on the products or the brands. I was excited to learn more, and with the help of Alyson, I was able to test out and try a few products she recommended to help me with my skin. A bit of back story and insight into my skin and skin care concerns:

I have battled acne and breakouts most of my young adult and adult life. In my teens I never had clear skin and visited countless dermatologist, tried tons of prescription  topical and oral medications but nothing seemed to make my skin consistently clear. In my 20’s my skin got much better, but after visiting a very well known NYC dermatology practice I was put on the drug Accutane. In retrospect there is no reason I should have been put on that drug, which is meant for cystic acne (which I never have had.) I had hormonal breakouts which became much more controllable when I switched to natural skin care products and a diet with mostly organic items and less dairy. Sure I do still get the occasional break out, don’t we all, especially women it’s just part of our monthly routine. Now the biggest concern I have with my skin is not break outs, but making sure that my skin stays clear, healthy, glowing and moisturized. For years I was using so many products to dry up my oil and stop pimples that I wound up drying my skin out a ton! Now I want to make sure my face looks refreshed, no wrinkles, radiant. I do have some small fine lines, but thankfully at 34, almost 35, my skin is still in a good place. My goal now is to make sure I am doing everything I can to keep it looking it’s best as I age. I also suffer from occasional dark spots which I manage by using SPF daily and staying out of the sun when it comes to my face.

What I received from Alyson:

After some back and forth with Alyson on my skin care concerns and goals she helped to put together 3 products in a set to let me test out. That is one of the best parts of having a skin care consultant to talk to; they can really help come up with a program and regiment that is perfect for you. In the mail I received 3 samples of the following products; a lip serum, a microderm paste and a night time serum. My thoughts and review of the products I received:

The name of the kit I received is called the “Give it a Glow” mini facial. It consists of the Micro Dermabrasion paste which is an exfoliator to enhance cell turnover and improve the skin’s tone and texture.  The second sample is the Night Renewing Serum to visibly improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The final sample is the Lip Renewing Serum, which smooths lip texture, reduce the appearance of lip wrinkles and increase moisture.  The lip serum is a clear serum that I put on my lips both at night and in the morning. It feels like a gel and does not feel sticky or tacky. My lips are always chapped ever since I took Accutane so I am always looking for lip balms or products to put the moisture back into my skin. I absolutely loved how this felt and would use this for sure over and over again. It is great to use under your lipstick to keep it from chapping and drying out your lips.

The night time serum blew my mind. At first I wasn’t sure how it was going to feel on my skin. I thought it might be oily or greasy, but it was completely the opposite. When I put it on it felt like velvet and soft and matte. It was a real treat to put on and when I woke up in the morning my skin was not oily at all! It felt really beautiful and renewed. The last product is the dermabrasion paste. I was a bit unsure how I would like this product since many times when I use a skin cleanser with any kind of exfoliation ingredients it can make my skin get even oilier, but this was not the case with this products.

The paste has tiny little beads/crystals (that’s what it felt like) in it and as you work it gently into your skin you know it is helping to get rid of the dead skin cells. I would use this with my middle and ring finger in tiny, circular motions and then rinse with water. Once I rinsed my face it felt baby soft! I was so surprised how soft it felt and it did not feel dry, tight or stripped of moisture. All 3 of these items I would buy and use as part of my skin care routine. My skin feels less dull, renewed and super soft like a layer of older skin has been replaced youthful new skin.
