The weather has surely been heating up here on the East Coast but New Jersey was especially hot this past weekend. With the temperatures hitting the high 90’s it was the perfect time to get in my car, scoop up a friend and head to the Jersey Shore. I couldn’t turn down a beautiful day at the beach and boardwalk especially on a Sunday, so when the folks at Pepsi asked me to come out and celebrate World Emoji Day with them at Jenkinson’s Boardwalk I emphatically said YES .
The Jersey Shore is the perfect place to visit to get great food, some sunshine, listen to music, have a drink and enjoy the day! The boardwalk was filled with families enjoying the rides, boardwalk games and food stands. Since it was such a beautiful day with very few clouds in the sky the beach was covered in sun bathers, bright beach umbrellas and friends gathering around to win prizes at the game stands. I always love seeing the little kids enjoying the beach and boardwalk with their big smiles and it reminds me of my childhood days down at the shore.
Me and my friend Jennifer got in my car and headed down the Garden State Parkway to Point Pleasant. We made sure to stop at the rest stop and get some snacks, including some Pepsi products which are branded with adorable little emoji faces. I love this campaign they’ve been doing and with the heat the drinks were super refreshing! I also grabbed a cheese string (my favorite quick rest stop snack) and we headed back on the road south the the shore.
The Jenkinson’s Boardwalk was bustling with excitement with lights flashing, kids laughing, delicious smelling foods and activity. The Pepsi team had a Plinko board and step and repeat set up in a very high traffic area which drew tons of people over to play the game and win prizes! Even though it was really hot people didn’t seem to mind waiting in line to play Plink and take photos. We hung out with the staff on site and had a blast playing games, taking photos and even doing some fun Snapchat videos and images with the Pepsi Snapchat filter they sponsored for the day.
I got up and tried my hand at winning some prizes on the Plinko board. I remember Plinko as a kid watching The Price is Right so it was so much fun to recreate this on the boardwalk. I dropped my Plinko chip and won a pair of Pepsi sunglasses – perfect on such a bright and sunny day. By the time 2pm hit all the prizes were gone because the Pepsi area was so popular and busy. I loved watching people of all ages “step right up” and play the game.
We took tons of photos in front of the photo backdrop and sharing them on social media with the Pepsi Emoji Keyboard App. I downloaded it for free on the ride down in the car and was using these on Twitter and Instagram to celebrate World Emoji Day. I didn’t even know emojis had their own day! There are more than two billion smartphone users globally who send over six billion emojis on a daily basis – that’s a lot of emojis.
They even had a #SayItWithPepsi Snapchat filter on the boardwalk and those of you who follow me on Snapchat (MissADS1981) I love using fun filters. We took some great images and videos to remember this awesome day! You may have seen a few of the videos me and Jennifer shared but we were having so much fun and it was such an awesome day.
After a few hours at the beach, some lunch and walking the boardwalk we packed up and headed back North to get home by dinner time. I wanted to take in the sun and avoid the Sunday afternoon/evening traffic on the GSP. We thankfully missed quite a bit and were home in under and hour and a half which is pretty good. I then relaxed by my pool and enjoyed the rest of the evening. It was such an awesome weekend and I’m so glad Pepsi invited me to come celebrating such a fun day with them down the shore.
What are your favorite emojis to use each day?
I think mine hands down have to be the senorita dancing, red wine, puppy dog face and a bodybuilder 🙂 That about sums me up in an emoji nutshell!
