We are all so busy that sometimes we forget to stop and smell the roses. Thankfully now with the trend of rose water sprays and facial toners you can have your bit of flower freshness in the palm of your hand. Rose water is fantastic to help give you a cool, refreshing spritz and also help to keep your skin hydrated. I became obsessed with facial mists a few months ago and now you will never catch me without one in my gym bag or purse. There are 2 sprays that I continue to buy to help keep my skin clean, clear and refreshed because they smell amazing and help prevent my face from getting oily, and are both under $10!

Benefits of Rose Water for your Skin:

Rosewater helps maintain the skin’s pH balance, and also controls excess oil. 

Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the redness of irritated skin, get rid of acne, dermatitis and eczema.

Due to the astringent like properties it possesses, rose water helps clean pores and tone the skin.

Rose water is not only great for your skin, but also for your scalp! We sometimes forget that our scalp is skin that needs nourishment as well as cleansing to prevent bacteria. If you need a quick refresh on an oily scalp, or post workout, try spraying some rose water on your scalp instead of dry shampoo. 

Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner

Equal parts hydrating and refreshing, Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner is formulated with real Damask rose water and Damask rose oil (to bedew and moisturize), witch hazel (to balance and tone), and a bit of Quillaja saponaria (soapbark) extract (to soften and condition). Best of all, it smells exactly like a fresh, blooming rose. I love to carry this in my purse and in my gym bag and the pink color make is a nice added bonus.

I usually keep the Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner in my purse and when I get to work I leave it by my computer. When you work in an office all day sometimes your skin can feel really dry, especially in the winter months when there is poor ventilation or the heat is pumping through the vents. I will do a few quick pumps and I feel awake and hydrated. I also love to use this after a sweaty gym session to feel brought back to life and smelling good.

Facial toner is always great when you are flying on planes, since the air in the cabin is just circulating and feels gross and stagnant. I always feel very dry after flying so I spray a bit (usually I will go to the bathroom to do it to not annoy my neighbors, and also before and after I fly).

I also add a few pieces of fresh cut aloe vera plant leaves to my Trader Joe’s mist. Aloe vera has such great healing properties for skin, so I love having  bit of aloe added to my mist. That is a quick tip since the next mist I will share that I love has aloe vera in it as well. Trader Joe’s brand does not, but if you add it yourself you get a cheaper dupe of the Mario Badescu one.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater

I love all of the products I have ever tried from Mario Badescu. I feel as though this line truly understands the battles we face (pun intended) of breakouts, uneven skin tone and just wanting our skin to be clear, calm and hydrated. I absolutely LOVE his Facial Spray! The smell, the feel, the additional aloe added – it makes my skin feel so refreshed but also has helped a lot with dryness and the aloe is great for keeping breakouts at bay.

Aloe vera has super healing properties, so if you have dry scabs from past breakouts, cuts or flaking skin aloe is fantastic! I actually rub fresh aloe vera gel from an aloe plant on my face every single night to help battle any future breakouts and it keeps my skin very clear and hydrated.  If I ever get a bad, painful pimple under the skin I highly recommend the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. It does leave a white/pink mark where you place it, but leave it on overnight and in the AM you can feel that it’s already prevented a really bad pimple from rearing its ugly head.

There are a few types of facial sprays by Mario Badescu but the pink one is my favorite. It’s a bit more than Trader Joe’s but well worth the price and the scent is a bit more tame than the TJ brand which you may like if you’re not a big “rose” scent person.

Overall: I highly recommend testing into adding rose water into your acne fighting, breakout preventing, super hydrating skin care routine. I have to say that just a few weeks of using it consistently that my skin feels much more dewy, less dry and more moisturized. Any breakouts that I get heal so quickly since adding rosewater and aloe vera to my routine each day and night! The more natural skin care products you can use on your face, the better, at least I think. I love trying new organic and natural products and love when you can find them at a great price as well.
