If you’re looking for a sweet treat that is packed with goodness then this recipe is right up your alley! I recently got my hands on BSN Syntha 6 Peanut Butter Cookie protein and I’ve been working up a ton of recipes to make with it. I love the taste of peanut butter so this is a great one for me to get creative with some protein treats and recipes. Syntha 6 is a sustained release protein which means it will give you quick protein as well as longer release so that you get protein fed to your body over the course of a few hours, not fast like a whey delivers it to your muscles. I also included a few ingredients like cacoa nibs and spectrum flax seed which are great additions with various healthy nutrients. These are a no-bake recipe so no oven is required, you actually will pop these into the freezer after for about 10 minutes and then transfer to your fridge. You want to make sure the mixture becomes a bit harder so they are easy to eat without getting your hands all sticky.
First let’s talk about cacao nibs, not to be confused with “cocoa” like cocoa powder. Cacao is an antioxidant powerhouse. Cacao has been consumed for its invigorating and healthy properties for generations in Mexican, Central and South American cultures. Like all cacao products, Navitas Naturals Cacao Nibs are loaded with antioxidants. In fact, cacao is one of the most antioxidant-rich foods on the planet! Cacao also contains fiber and a number of vital minerals – especially magnesium and iron. An incredibly complex food, cacao also contains unique and potent chemical alkaloids including anandamine, theobromine and phenylethylamine. So while they are tasty and delicious, they are also loaded with magnesium, polyphenols (also found in popcorn too) and antioxidants to protect against free radicals.
Ingredients List:
4 tablespoons of peanut butter (I used Cinnamon Raisin Buff Bake protein spread)
3 scoops of BSN Snytha 6 Peanut Butter Cookie protein
3 heaping table spoons of Spectrum Flax Seed with Mixed Berries
2 table spoons of cacao nibs
2 table spoons of Coconut Secrets Coconut Nectar
1/4 cup of organic skim milk or unsweetened almond milk
Mix all of the ingredients into a mixing bowl and you may want to use your hands to just really work it together. On a flat dish scoop out the batter with a spoon then roll into your hands, the mixture will be sticky. Place them on the dish and then pop into the freezer for 10 minutes to help harden the mixture together. You will want to harden it a bit so it’s not sticky to the touch.
Remove the dish from the freezer and then re-roll all the balls again to pack them nice and tightly. Put them on a new plate and feel free to put a few more cacao nibs on top. Then put the dish into the fridge until you are ready to pop them in your mouth and enjoy them!
I almost forgot, the addition of the flax seed is a great way to get some good-for-you healthy fats into this recipe. Although flaxseed contains all sorts of healthy components, it owes its primary healthy reputation to three of them:
Omega-3 essential fatty acids, “good” fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects. Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.
Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types.
